Curriculum

The following is a general overview of the objectives of each area. These are subject to change from class year to class year.  

Orientation & Dinner

Two Day Retreat - The retreat is designed to bring the class together through activities promoting interaction, learning, and sharing.  This program will also give class members skills necessary to lead and work in a team or group environment more effectively and productively.

Law Enforcement / Judicial System – This session provides an opportunity to hear from law enforcement leaders in Chenango County, shows an overview of agency responsibilities issues and concerns facing these agencies today and how they work together.  It also provides a greater understanding of the court systems and how they are structured.

Educational System – Educators and administrators share with the class the role of schools in our county, how they are changing, and how education, business, and parents must play a role in making the educational experiences of our children positive and effective.  

Chenango County Bus Trip – The class will visit organizations throughout the County to learn about the diversity of Chenango County in regards to economic development, quality of life, the people and the countryside.  

Leadership & Community Leadership – Members will learn the definitions, philosophies, theories, models and styles of leadership.

Health Care – Class members will receive a broad perspective of health care in Chenango County and the ever changing health care environment.  

Local Government – A panel of government officials will share with the class their experiences as officials, how the system works, staffing and budget needs and their perspective for the future of Chenango County.

Class Day – Experiential Exercise and other topic areas not scheduled in first half

Local Business – Exposes class members to the diversity and impact that businesses have on Chenango County and their impact on the area as well as the issues they face.   

Board Work Training & Volunteerism – To get a better understanding of the various kinds of boards and their functions.  This session is also to create an awareness regarding volunteerism and the needs within our County.  

Agribusiness – Expose class members to the diversity and impact that agribusinesses have on Chenango County.  Class members will visit several different agribusinesses.
